Protected Areas

We believe in the importance of preserving marine, coastal, and terrestrial wilderness areas to conserve and restore Argentina's environments, ecological processes, and native wildlife.

For 6 decades we´ve been collaborating with national, provincial, and municipal governments to achieve an effective, connected, and representative network of protected areas, integrating local communities.

However, the challenges to expanding and strengthening current protected area systems are diverse and must be addressed urgently. That is why we support the goal established by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, agreed upon at COP15 of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, that includes the ambitious "30x30" target, aiming to conserve at least 30% of the world's land and oceans by 2030.

How do we work?

  • We support the creation of new protected areas that complement the representativeness of bioregions, including those with low or non-protection; address the protection of threatened species and ecological processes; and ensure connectivity, as a disconnected network of areas would be highly vulnerable to climate change and other threats.
  • We are involved in strengthening existing protected areas, as many don´t have management plans or sufficient staff or resources to ensure effective management. We help implement their comprehensive management plans and monitor their development.
  • We contribute to local development around these areas through responsible tourism, highlighting bio-cultural corridors and implementing environmental education strategies.
  • We collaborate with government agencies, private companies, local communities, civil society organizations, and educational and cultural institutions to promote a positive appreciation of nature, engaging local communities in the creation, implementation, and benefits provided by protected areas
