Environmental Education

Communities play a fundamental role in the conservation of natural and cultural heritage; that is why we create opportunities for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, focusing on their territorial and local perspectives regarding the natural environment around them.

Through participatory teaching-and-learning processes, we seek to inspire deep reflections on our relationship with the environment, helping people understand how different cultures connect with nature, and promoting their active involvement in conservation by incorporating their knowledge and values into the design and implementation of strategies.

Our approach is holistic and collaborative, offering community-based and open initiatives in a variety of settings, working with groups of different ages, and taking a proactive, action-oriented stance.

We implement a variety of methodologies and activities to foster a citizenry committed to natural and cultural heritage.

How do we work?

  • We train park rangers, instructors, teachers, and tourism professionals to incorporate an environmental perspective into their roles so they can convey the importance of nature conservation and become advocates for this message.
  • We promote the interpretation of the natural, archaeological, and cultural heritage of protected areas to raise awareness about their conservation values.
  • We design signage for protected areas and develop interpretive materials such as brochures and resources for visitor centers, incorporating the perspectives and traditional knowledge of local communities into scientific understanding.
  • We organize recreational and educational activities with students at various grade levels.
  • We assist schools in incorporating content related to nature conservation into their institutional planning.
  • We offer workshops to various groups and public and private organizations to build capacity related to nature conservation and to incorporate this approach into their activities.
  • We participate in events, fairs, workshops, and talks on conservation.
  • We develop outreach campaigns about the conservation status and characteristics of species and wild areas that are priorities for the country.
